I specialized in accessible toy design (USD $1-5 price point). My philosophy: a beautiful shape costs the same to produce as an uninspired one. These projects showcase my expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and creating quality, appealing products within severe cost constraints.
Alto Tango coffee and ice cream shops multiple locations. My focus was from aesthetics to meticulous workflow and customer experience optimization, ensuring beauty and functional excellence. I managed these projects comprehensively, from initial space renovation to streamlining everyday business and customer flow.
I led diverse real world Design ready for Manufacturing. Leveraging our family-owned injection mold factory's (2M pieces sold) expertise, I transformed everyday items like Tupperware, buckets, and dish racks, and designed innovative bus headlights. My work proved aesthetics can thrive in mass production.
During my freelance period, I designed this versatile device enclosure to house complex electronics for multiple applications. Key features included a large screen display, integrated printer, and secure credit card swipe/chip reader. My design focused on optimizing internal component organization for efficient assembly and maintenance, while ensuring a clean, intuitive user interface. This project, which demonstrates my command of the full design spectrum from digital concept and CAD development to physical realization, highlights my expertise in industrial design for electronics, balancing robust functionality with refined user experience for both consumer and potential medical uses.
The internal structure was meticulously designed for robustness and efficient component mounting, including integrated VESA mounting points for versatile installation. Every rib and boss was strategically placed for optimal support and manufacturing efficiency.
The exterior styling balanced a clean aesthetic with essential functionality. It features easily accessible, removable slots for print advertising, integrated speaker placement, and a user-friendly credit card swipe and chip reader, all designed for intuitive user interaction.
Recognizing the common failure points of printers in high-use devices, I designed an integrated, easily replaceable printer module. This cartridge-style unit allows for rapid, tool-less replacement of the entire printing assembly, instantly restoring full functionality to the device.
A physical prototype of the device, showcasing the successful translation of digital design elements into a tangible product. This stage allowed for real-world validation of ergonomics, fit, and finish before final production considerations.
As a freelance project, I designed this giant roto-molded cooler for fishing and hunting enthusiasts. My design focused on optimizing insulation within its double walls and integrating various attachments for enhanced functionality. I managed the design from concept through client presentation, including producing a scale 3D print in-house for tangible visualization. Utilizing Augmented Reality (AR) on a client's phone, I enabled them to experience the cooler's true scale against real-world backgrounds—a cutting-edge visualization technique. This project highlights my expertise in design for specific manufacturing processes (roto-molding), functional product development, and innovative client communication.
Utilizing my own 3D printer, I produced this accurate scale model of the cooler. This in-house prototyping ensured the client could visualize the final product tangibly, allowing us to confirm every detail and fit, providing confidence and eliminating surprises before costly manufacturing.
To enhance the cooler's appeal for hunting and fishing, I simulated a camouflage finish directly on the 3D print. This demonstrated to the client how multiple colored plastics within the roto-molding process could achieve a unique, integrated camouflage style, showcasing material and process innovation.
The cooler's top was thoughtfully designed to serve as functional seating for two people facing each other, each with their own integrated cup holder. A central console with a waterproof lid provides secure storage for personal items. Rugged handles are integrated on each side, and the overall dimensions were specifically designed to fit sideways in most pickup truck beds for easy transport.
This cross-section highlights the intelligent internal design: ample space for insulation within the double walls ensures superior thermal performance, with all components precisely fitted to prevent interference. A subtle incline on the cooler's bottom guides water towards a large drainage hole, allowing users to empty it without lifting the full water weight, improving ergonomics and usability.
